Understanding IVA-2 in Plain Language
How the test works and how Mahiyab differs
IVA-2 is a commercial integrated visual and auditory continuous performance test. Continuous performance tests, often shortened to CPTs, present repeated stimuli and ask a person to respond to designated targets while withholding responses to other stimuli. They can produce structured information about performance during the test session.
What kinds of signals does a CPT produce?
- Correct responses: whether the person responds when a target appears.
- Omission errors: targets that do not receive the expected response.
- Commission errors: responses made when a response should be withheld.
- Reaction time: how quickly responses occur.
- Variability: how consistent timing and accuracy remain across the task.
- Modality patterns: possible differences between visual and auditory conditions.
Why can this information be useful?
A standardized task can provide an objective sample of performance that is different from a questionnaire or interview. It may contribute to a broader assessment by showing how a person responded under defined conditions. It does not, however, capture the full complexity of behavior at home, school, or in relationships.
A CPT result is one source of information. ADHD is not diagnosed or excluded by one score or one test.
What a comprehensive ADHD assessment includes
Qualified assessment considers developmental and medical history, symptoms and impairment across settings, information from caregivers and school, possible alternative explanations, and coexisting needs. The exact process depends on age, circumstances, professional role, and local clinical guidance.
How Mahiyab relates to IVA-2
Mahiyab draws conceptual inspiration from sustained-attention and response-inhibition tasks. It may analyze game events such as correct and incorrect responses, reaction timing, and motion signals. It is not IVA-2, is not a translated version of IVA-2, and does not inherit IVA-2 norms, scoring rules, reliability, sensitivity, or specificity.
Why validation cannot be transferred
Changing stimuli, instructions, timing, rewards, hardware, sensor handling, or the target population creates a different measurement system. Even if two products share a scientific concept, the exact released product needs its own technical and clinical evaluation. For Mahiyab, this means studying data quality, reliability, age and device effects, comparison with qualified assessment, and the consequences of false-positive and false-negative outputs.
How to read a future Mahiyab result responsibly
- Check whether the session was completed under suitable conditions.
- Treat the output as a description of that session, not a child's identity.
- Compare it with concrete observations from daily life and school.
- Do not infer a diagnosis, prognosis, or treatment decision.
- Discuss persistent concerns with an appropriately qualified professional.
Questions transparency should answer
- Which product version and devices were evaluated?
- How were participants recruited and assessed?
- Are reliability estimates and uncertainty reported?
- How were thresholds selected and tested?
- How often could the result create false reassurance or unnecessary concern?
- How are child data and parental consent handled?
